2010 Boston Music Spotlight’s 3rd Annual Battle of the Bands SUBMISSIONS DUE

by jfleming on Jul.26, 2010, under Uncategorized

BMS announces 3rd Annual Battle of the Bands!

Our third annual Battle of the Bands will be held on Friday, September 10 at Olivers Nightclub at the Cask’n Flagon. Get all the details on what you can win and how to sign up, inside.

Boston Music Spotlight, the region’s leading source for music news and concert information, today announced its third annual Battle of the Bands, which will be held on Friday, September 10 at Olivers Nightclub at the Cask’n Flagon.

New England-based bands that play original material are eligible to participate in Boston Music Spotlight’s third annual Battle of the Bands (finalists from the 2009 battle are not eligible). Now through July 30, bands can submit by emailing BMS at battlesubmissions@bostonmusicspotlight.com. Bands should included only links to their offical website, MySpace and/or Reveb Nation pages. Submission without attachments will be discarded. Boston Music Spotlight staff members will review all submissions and choose the top ten semi-finalists. The top ten semi-finalists will be posted on BostonMusicSpotlight.com on August 1 and then readers will have the opportunity to vote for the five finalists to perform at the Battle on September 10. Voting for the finalists will end on August 6 and the five finalists will be notified on August 9.

Beyond the glory of victory, the bands are also in the running to receive some amazing prizes worth over $5,000, including:

Powderfinger Promotions will give a national radio promotion package to the winner of the 2010 BMS Battle of the Bands. The package includes promotion to radio for 6 weeks. Powderfinger Promotions promotes the winner’s newest album via one-on-one contacts and weekly group emails. The winner receives weekly reports indicating where and how much airplay they received for the week. CDs are still the most desired music format for radio, and the winner must use retail copies of their latest album in order to obtain maximum results. Powderfinger also provides address labels, return address labels, and add date labels, but the winner is responsible for packaging and mailing their CDs to radio on a date to be determined with Powderfinger Promotions.

New Leaf Legal will provide legal services for the winner of the Battle of the Bands in the form of a band start-up package, customized for the Band after an in-depth conversation of their needs, and which may include entity formation and consultation, a band agreement, a professional services audit to determine what further steps should be taken to ensure legal and business security for the band, and/or other equitable legal work.

Additional prizes include a professional photoshoot from J London Photography, CD duplication and packaging from Disc Makers and Coptech Digital, graphic design services from Beachwood Graphics and printing services from Printing Sources in Abington, Massachusetts.

More prizes will be announced shortly.

“We are very excited to announce plans for our third annual Battle of the Bands,” said Rory Flynn, President and Editor-in-Chief of Boston Music Spotlight. “This is such a great opportunity for bands to promote themselves to a big audience while also rocking out for a substantial prize package. For our readers, just as the past two battles have proved, this is another opportunity to discover new music from Boston’s awesome local music scene.”

Shadwell won the 2009 Boston Music Battle of the Bands, which also included In Like Lions, Polyethylene, Silent Century, and Taste. In 2008, Hello Mahalo won the first Battle over Six Day Slide, The Candace Brooks Band, Cemetery Superfly, and Tunnlvision.

To register in Boston Music Spotlight’s 2008 Battle of the Bands, please email your band name with links to MySpace/Reverb pages to:
battlesubmissions@bostonmusicspotlight.com
