Talent Tuesday

Old Abram Brown is a band you’re going to want to keep on your list. The Alternative/Indie Rock/Experimental band describe themselves on their ReverbNation page as “a ferocious, blood hungry bear”. Blood hungry bear? Sounds good to us, but what about their sound? With what they describe as, “music that sounds like a clanky piano of the old west combined with thoughtful rhythms and commanding vocals while its animal urges still shine through”, we think people will enjoy them as much as we do. The guys have two albums out (Alive in Winter and Restless Ghosts) with the latter being available for download on a “pay what you want” basis. We’re excited to have them back in the Boston area, as they just returned from a four week Northeast / Midwest tour with We Are Trees. Having played past shows at Great Scott, Brighton Music Hall, Boston University, and Brandeis University, and with an upcoming show at the Lizard Lounge in Cambridge, we’re hoping to see more of Old Abram Brown out and about in Boston. Definitely check out their songs streaming on their ReverbNation page. We know you’ll like them as much as we do.

A four-part group, Silentypes spends very little time worrying about what genre their music will fall into, or if they are following conventional structures. Instead, the Acton based band seeks to make music that simply “sounds good.” The band was founded in 2010 with members Andrew Pentz (bass/lead vocals), Adam Ciminello (organ/keys/vocals), Kristen Sofia (drums/vocals), and Collin Jones (Guitar, vocals). Coming from different backgrounds with a medley of influences has given way to the unique sound of Silentypes’ music.  You can hear this music now streaming on their Reverbnation page!

Bad Trick is a five-piece rock band from Boston and on the rise in the local music scene. Playing venues like Hennessy’s, Copperfield’s, as well as at Northeastern’s AfterHOURS they have begun to make a name for themselves in the area. Benny Chong (Vocals), Alex Sanchez (Keys), Keith Patrick (Bass), Fredy Marrero (Guitar) and Jason Skibo (drums) all come together to create a very energetic live show, and come together at rehearsals to create the bold sound they describe on their Facebook as having “the limitless potential of all styles of music “.  They have also helped the Youth Enrichment Services (YES) of Boston by playing a benefit concert last month. The goal was to raise money, which will help kids by inspiring physical activities to create a strong, respectful community. Their varied fan base, dedication to their music and the attachment to the Boston area has given them their initial push into the spotlight, and there is no stopping them now. They are entering into the studio soon to record some new tracks, and you can find some of their previously recorded tracks and information on their upcoming shows on their Facebook page:

The Jessica Prouty Band is not your average teenage rock band as they have been together as a band for over three years and are about to release their third CD in late June of this year. The band is made up of four people Jessica Prouty (lead vocals), Cam Pelkey (drums), Cody Nilsen (lead guitarist), and Andy Covino (keyboardist). The band has won the “John Lennon Educational Tourbus Daddy’s Junky Music Rockin’ Roland Battle of the Bands” as well as the “Children’s Hospital Boston Notes for the Cure Battle for Best Song” in the past three years. Most recently The Jessica Prouty Band just recently placed second as the best teen band in the United States of America at the National Association of Music Merchants competition sponsored by SchoolJamUSA and held at Downtown Disney in Anaheim, California.  Jessica Prouty won the best vocals award and Cam Pelkey won the best drummer award, and all four band members received scholarships to the Berklee College of Music summer programs. The Jessica Prouty Band plays around 70 shows a year all over the New England Area and the surrounding states. When they are not playing in shows the band likes to hang out and occasionally throw the Frisbee around.

Here’s just a sample of their music: The Jessica Prouty Band- “Escape”

Be sure to check out their Facebook page or their website as well,  because I’m sure you’ll keep seeing more big thing from them! Congrats guys and gal!
